Construction Details

Contractor: McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.

Designer: Gabor Lorant Architects, Inc.

Work hours: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with occasional work on Saturdays.

Impacts: Excavation operations are currently underway at the parking garage site. Excavation operations include a combination of heavy digging, drilling, controlled rock blasting, slope stabilization and the export of the removed material. This work will require the closure of the public parking area on Forest Road, and routine closure of a small portion along Forest Road in front of the Parking Garage site to all vehicular traffic. Please be aware of construction equipment, lane restrictions, reduced speeds, rough road conditions and loud noise. Crews will work with residents to maintain access throughout construction operations. If you live within 500 feet of a planned blasting area, you should have completed a pre-blast survey with Arizona Monitoring Services. If you do not live in this area, no action is required. The Sedona Fire District will issue blasting permits for this project during the scheduled blasting window. Both the Fire District and Police Department have been notified and are involved as this project progresses. A Fire Marshal will be present when controlled rock blasting operations occur. Residents within 500 feet of blasting areas may notice more dust than usual, but it will diminish, enough to not affect air quality for a prolonged length of time. All controlled rock blasting operations are planned to be in compliance and fall below the regulated limits that are in place to protect nearby structures. It is normal and expected to feel and hear the blast if you live in close proximity to the site.

Timeframe: Construction is slated to start in early December 2024 with an estimated completion date of early 2026.

Total cost: $23 million

This project is part of a larger program, Sedona in Motion (SIM), which is designed to improve traffic flow, support transit, provide non-motorized travel options by improving walking and bike-riding paths, and improve safety throughout all of Sedona. All SIM projects are focused on reducing environmental and visitor traffic impacts, and preserving Sedona’s beauty and livability.
